NEED HELP WITH APPLYING FOR CALFRESH?
What is CalFresh?
CalFresh, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is a USDA-funded nutrition assistance program aiding low-income individuals and families in purchasing essential food. It helps stretch tight budgets, enabling healthier eating with fruits and vegetables. Recipients use electronic CalFresh benefits through Golden State Advantage EBT cards, similar to credit or debit cards.
Who is it For?
CalFresh is for people with low income who meet federal income eligibility rules and want to add to their budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table.
Where can you use your EBT card?
Each month, your CalFresh benefits are put into your account and you can use your EBT card at most major grocery stores, convenience stores, markets, and even some farmer markets. The card is used the same way someone would buy food with a bank card or a credit card.
International students and undocumented students (including DACA recipients) are ineligible to apply for CalFresh benefits, even with a work visa/Social Security Number. Although undocumented immigrants may be ineligible to receive CalFresh, your household can still receive benefits if at least ONE person in your household meets one of the statuses listed previously.
