Verdugo Fire Academy (ND)

This certificate is designed to prepare students to become entry-level firefighters in local and state fire agencies in California. This fundamental intensive training course includes all learning domains from the California Fire Marshal’s office, which includes instruction in structural, commercial and industrial firefighting. The Verdugo Fire Academy is a State Board of Fire Services and California State Fire Marshal's accredited Regional Training Program (ARTP) sponsored by Glendale Community College and the Glendale Fire Department. Students receive a variety of California State Fire Marshal certificates upon graduation from the Academy including state and international certification as a Firefighter 1. Students must complete all required courses for a minimum of 35 units. Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will be able to discuss the skills required for fire prevention techniques; discuss the aspects of fire behavior; discuss the skills required for fire-fighting tactics and strategy; and discuss the skills required for the use of equipment used in fire protection. The Verdugo Fire Academy is a State Board of Fire Services and California State Fire Marshal's accredited Regional Fire Academy sponsored by Glendale Community College and the Glendale Fire Department. Students receive a variety of California State Fire Marshal certificates upon graduation from the Academy.

This certificate does not satisfy the major requirements for the Associate in Science degree.
